At Link SC, we take a unique approach to our workforce by exclusively partnering with independent contractors as Support Coordinator Consultants. We believe this model offers the best outcomes for our participants, our consultants, and our business.

In the NDIS sector, therapists and support coordinators who are employees often face the pressure of meeting Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). While KPIs can be essential for a company’s financial viability, they can also be a significant source of stress for employees. This pressure, coupled with limited control over caseloads and expectations to work beyond capacity, can lead to burnout, high turnover, and a potentially toxic work environment.

We recognise that we’re living in an era of unprecedented flexibility. Just as we help our participants explore how life best works for them, we apply the same philosophy to our team. We believe that empowering individuals to create their ideal work-life balance brings out the best in them, ultimately benefiting the participants we serve. We recognise that the old work paradigm of turning up to a workplace from 9-5 is outdated and does not necessarily offer the flexibility for optimal work.

By working with independent consultants, we:
1. Promote flexibility and autonomy
2. Reduce stress associated with traditional employment models
3. Encourage a diverse range of expertise and experiences
4. Foster a culture of empowerment and personal responsibility

Our approach aligns with our core values and ensures that those working with us can deliver the highest quality of care and support to our participants.

What To Consider When You Are Interested In Consulting

Income variability

As a consultant, your income will fluctuate based on the billable work you complete each week.

Responsibility for equipment and checks

You will need to provide your own equipment, such as a laptop, vehicle and phone. Additionally, you are responsible for covering the costs of necessary checks, such as the NDIS Worker Screening Check and the Working with Children Check. These expenses may be partially tax-deductible; please consult your accountant for details.

Invoices and taxes

As a consultant, you are responsible for recording your billable hours through the CMS. We invoice the Plan Manager/Agency on a weekly basis and remit to your nominated bank account and your superannuation fund.  You are responsible for managing your own taxes as a sole trader and are required to provide an ABN.

Insurance requirements

While Link SC provides Workers Compensation insurance for all consultants, you are required to obtain your own public liability and professional indemnity insurance. Social Workers registered with AASW receive insurance coverage through their membership.

Memberships, professional development, and clinical supervision

As a consultant, you are responsible for the costs associated with professional development, such as training, workshops, and seminars, as well as clinical supervision and professional memberships. However, these expenses are factored into the higher compensation you receive as a contractor compared to an employee and may be partially tax-deductible. Please consult your accountant for further information.
